True Story

Today I was driving to work and suddenly I was surrounded by butterflies, swarming across the highway. There was a song on the radio with the chorus "When you see that flying saucer you better start to pray, cause when you see that flying saucer it may be the Judgement Day."

The butterflies were flying in pairs. Everyone was driving slowly, but every time one of those butterflies made a little thunk against the windshield I cringed.

And I was thinking to myself, "I could be out in that field walking through a cloud of butterflies, but instead I am crushing them on my windshield to go work and sit in a room for three and a half hours with a bunch of kids who don't want to be there.

At work a girl's car caught on fire in the parking lot. We sat in the classroom and listened to the sirens wail up the street, then to the fireman chopping off the hood to douse the flames.

It was a weird day.
The show got extended! Yessss

Fight the Power!

Got a letter in the mail today regarding my moving violation (ticket). Remember that, way back in September or something ridiculous?

Well.

I'm not guilty! The officer never responded to my written declaration. Which means I don't have to pay the $221 citation.

Suh-weet.

Happenings Part II aka Starving Artistland

I got offered that office job.

Talked to Cj about it last night. Turned it down this morning. And I thought, who am I to turn down a job in such a crappy economy, when there are people who can't afford to feed their children? Then I remembered why.

I have to believe that at least for a little while I can have a dream.

This made me feel better, though...

Some Happenings...

I have now officially gone through three Hamlets and am on my fourth. Now you might think this is because of something I'm doing. Let me explain [Note the changing genders].

This little Hamlet politely declined our casting offer because her schedule had changed and she was no longer able to commit to the rehearsals.

This little Hamlet auditioned, was offered the role on the spot, was extremely excited, and then was never heard from again. We're still debating whether or not he died.

This little Hamlet started out as another character, took over the role, and we re-cast her character. She missed one rehearsal, then missed the next one. When I emailed her to tell her if she missed another we'd have to recast her, she quit.

So now I am on Hamlet number 4, male. I called in a favor from a friend, so hopefully everything will work now.

The other night I drove home on my skinny little one lane street and turned the corner to find seven sheriff's cars, an ambulance, and a fire truck in the way. between two of the sheriff's cars was Cj's car. We were stuck there for a looooong time. Eventually they brought out the perp, stood around for a while having a meeting, then evvvveryone had to back out down the road into people's driveways before we could all drive home. Turns out that the only cars that were stuck there were mine, Cj's, and the boyfriend of the girl who lives above us. So only our house was affected by the stupidity of the dude down the road.

I had a chance to apply for an internship with the off-broadway production of Coraline. I know. But things are going really well with my company here, I just got promoted at work, and it wouldn't be a paid position. So I retracted my application. Sad. But I know a couple of the other people who are applying for it, and they'd be good too.

I interviewed today at a company in town for a front office position. It doesn't pay well, but it doesn't pay badly. But they said the part of the ad where they mentioned part time work going to full time in a month wasn't really right, and that they were looking for someone who wants to be full time right away. Also, all of the interview questions were, "How busy can you be?" "What was the busiest moment at your last job?" "How many things can you juggle at once?" It also involves telemarketing. Which is why they wanted to interview me, I have experience.

If I take this job, we don't have to worry about money this summer when the test prep stuff dries up. But I also won't have any time to do theater.

We'll see if I'm even offered the position. But right now I'm not keen on taking it.

More later...

Tax Closure

Phew. Tax refund in the bank. One more year that I don't get audited for all the miscellaneous theater and non-theater related jobs I do...

Today. Oh lord, today.

Cj and I both forgot that I had the key to his classroom (I proctor the tests for his class), so I had to drive a half an hour south to give it to him. I had to mail the tests from Saturday first so they would go out today, and there was a huge line at FedEx so I only got to spend about 10 minutes with Cj before he had to go teach. Bah.

On the upside, I returned a scarf that I got way back in December and OH MY GOD, why are there so many amazing sales at Macy's now that I have no money? I exchanged the scarf for a 100% silk tunic that used to be a hundred dollars. It was down to $24. WHAT.

I came really close to getting this vest instead, but realized that I would never wear it. But it made me feel very rock and roll.

By the way, they play this song on the BB Dakota website (where my shirt came from), and I really like it.

Je Veux Te Voir - YELLE

Then, on another downside, my windshield wipers stopped working while I was driving downtown (after driving all the way home from bringing Cj the key). I had to get off the freeway a few times to wipe off the accumulated water because it was POURING out. I eventually made it to my meeting after pulling over at a gas station, a Safeway, and the parking lot of a Jack in the Box. After the meeting the rain had stopped so I drove to Frost's (THANKS FROST) and Cj met us. Turns out some rubber part on the wiper mechanism had deteriorated, but the motor's ok. So it shouldn't be too expensive to replace, I hope.

But now I am home and I am TIRED.
